U-Pick Lavender
Yule Love It Lavender Festival
Friday & Saturday, July 18 & 19, 2008

With over 2,000 plants in one acre, Lady Lavender is definitely the main attraction to the Yule Love It Lavender Festival. Approximately 300 of the 1,200 guests who attended the 2006 and 2007 festivals enjoyed the soothing experience of harvesting lavender in bloom. Grandfathers and grand daughters, mothers and daughters up to four generations snipped beautiful, scented bouquets together. So don’t forget your camera to capture that special moment harvesting the scent from heaven. (Yule Love It Lavender Farm will have disposable cameras on hand for sale just in case you forget your camera.)

Typically, the English lavenders (Munstead, Hidcote, Lady, Twickle Purple, Royal Velvet, Jean Davis) are ripe by mid June. The lavandins (Grosso, Provence and Fred Boutin) follow in July. There are generally a few varieties in bloom from mid June through October for you to harvest. Yule Love It grows 15 varieties, all blooming successively throughout the summer.

Once you pick lavender, do not place it in water, but arrange to your heart’s content. If kept dry and out of sunlight, harvested lavender can hold its scent indefinitely. Yule Love It's lavender is organically grown, so you can consume what you pick in your favorite sweet and savory dishes.

U-Pick bundles are $5 each for a generous handful. Yule Love It Lavender Farm provides scissors, baskets and twisty tie for harvesting.
